Meet The Team

Owner and Head Coach
Kirsten Hijdra
I’m Kirsten Hijdra, owner of the shed and Head of strength and conditioning within our space. With a lifelong background in high-performance sport and athlete development. My approach has been shaped by decades in the field as both an athlete and coach, including national-level competition, international experience, and over 25 years of coaching across multiple sports. I built The Shed on a commitment to no shortcuts, no ego, and no noise—just smart programming, strong fundamentals, and an environment where athletes are challenged, supported, and held accountable.

What makes The Shed what it is today is not one person or one coach—it’s the community. My staff, the families, and most importantly the athletes have all played a role in shaping this space into something much bigger than training alone. It’s a culture built on trust, effort, and growth.

At its core, The Shed is built on the belief that coaching is not just about physical development. It’s about meeting athletes where they are, understanding them as individuals, and developing both the body and the mind. Humility is non-negotiable here—coaches, including myself, are always learning, always evolving, and always working to better connect with the athletes we serve.

This is a space where athletes can show up as they are—whether they’re chasing a roster spot, recovering from being cut, preparing for a big game, or navigating the pressure of competition. There’s no politics, no drama—just real work, real support, and a relentless focus on helping every athlete reach their potential.

Coach - Head of Hyrox and Adult Training
Becs Craven
I've played soccer my entire life, and through the highs and lows of sport - including injuries, setbacks, and surgery - I've learned firsthand how important strength, resilience, and confidence are for athletes both on and off the field. Those experiences are a big part of what shaped me as a coach today. What I love most about coaching is helping athletes grow in confidence, develop life skills, and find themselves in the gym is the most rewarding part of what I do. My goal is always to create an environment where athletes feel supported, challenged, and empowered to succeed in sport and life.

Sports are a huge part of my life whether it's coaching or training myself. I believe that the gym should be fun, supportive, and a place where athletes can grow both in and out for sports. Coaching gives me the opportunity to pass on the same love for sport that has shaped me into who I am. My goal is to make sure every session is energetic and rewarding while making sure every athlete feels seen.

I love working at The Shed because it feels like more than just a workplace - its a positive and motivating environment. The team is supportive, and every day brings opportunities to learn and grow. I also enjoy working out at The Shed because it helps me stay healthy, build confidence, and challenge myself. Being surrounded by people who are committed to improving themselves makes it an inspiring place to be.

I am a former BCSPL Coastal FC goalkeeper and am now playing for Unity FC BCPL. I will be playing for the UFV women's soccer team this coming September. Soccer has taught me that growth comes from oushing through challenges, staying disciplined, and trusting the process even when things get difficult. Through every setback and success, I've learned that hard work and genuine love for the game is what keeps me going.

I have been with Kirsten for 3 years now and I love absolutely everything about the way she coaches, from constantly reaching goals, to laughing hysterically for the whole session. She inspires me to be the best version of myself both as an athlete and as a person. I try to bring that same energy into my own coaching by creating an environment where athletes feel supported, motivated, and confident, while still working hard and pushing themselves to grow. My favourite part about coaching is watching all these incoming athletes realize how capable they actually are.

Daisy
Daisy, the shed greeter, takes great pride in this job! Always keeping a watchful eye on the doors, making sure everyone who enters is met with a tail wag and zoomies. She has the wildest mood swings with some very strict personal boundaries!! It's best to give it her space when she is sleeping on her towel, but fair warning, if your down on the ground, you best get ready for some sweet Daisy kisses.
